What To A Slave Is The Fourth Of July

Listen to Excerpts of Frederick Douglass’ Historic Speech

EUC Board Member Diane Pollard was part of the organizing committee that brought the Frederick Douglass Memorial to Harlem. The Memorial, located at the northwest corner of Central Park honors the African-American abolitionist, orator, writer and statesman Frederick Douglass, consists of an eight-foot bronze portrait sculpture by Gabriel Koren, and a large circle and fountain with ornamental and symbolic features designed by Algernon Miller.

During the production of our latest video, Diane Pollard visited the statue with Manhattan Borough President Gale Brewer. As they viewed the statue, Pollard and Brewer reminisced about the thinking and advocacy that led to the development and installation of this monument to Frederick Douglass.

The Episcopal Urban Caucus encourages you to visit and reflect upon the Frederick Douglass Memorial at the northwest corner of Central Park.

Let’s continue his work on behalf of justice and equity, which our world desperately needs.

We’re grateful for the support of Manhattan Borough President Gale Brewer.
